Who Are We Drawing?

Earlier this week, one of our artists made a post on Instagram asking the LGBTQ+ sketching community, "How many of you show up for black models?"  Looking at our figure drawing attendance, I can answer, usually not as many, and our group is not dissimilar to the others.

As the host of a session, it is my job to provide everyone with a model that will not only perform, but that will get people in the seats. When you look closely, it's easy to see how model diversity can affect attendance. I took a moment to break down OUR model list by race compared to the racial demographics of New York City, and to be totally honest, I didn't care for what I saw.  The percentages just don't match. While Doable Guys HIGHLY values diversity in our models, we have often taken into consideration other aspects, (from age, body type, experience, etc) and it's time for us to be accountable.  I am not writing this as an explanation of why or how we have booked our models, but as a promise to the homoerotic/queer art community and to all the artists, models, and art lovers, that we, as an organization, will do better and we will try harder.

I encourage everyone, including myself, to push themselves and be a champion of inclusivity. Show up, show support, and show the organizers who you want to draw.

Our inbox is always open for model suggestions & inquiries.  If you know of someone (or ARE that someone) interested in posing for us, please let us know!
