Remembering Artist Martin Sánchez
I am in complete shock to hear about the passing of Martin last night. I met Martin when they started drawing with our group in January and they have been a regular face at our sessions and events ever since.
They were such a unique individual, always showing up looking fierce and always with an interesting story to share. But most importantly (and to me what made Martin a pillar in our community), they always SHOWED UP. They would make a 2+ hour trip just to come draw with us, or to stop by a gallery show, or to attend queer markets to say hello to friends. Their support for their fellow queers was absolutely unmatched, and did not go unnoticed.
Martin’s artistic style was just as unique as themself. Fun, colorful, and so distinctly their own. Immediately recognizable as Martin. I always enjoyed seeing it pop out from the rest of our feed. I am so happy to have had their work hanging in both our “Through The Glory Hole” show and more recently in our queer art exhibition at the BK Queer Flea.
I only wish I had met them sooner, but I will truly appreciate every conversation I was able to have with them. Martin left their mark on so many of us and for that, I will be forever grateful. From all of us here at Doable Guys, our thoughts go out to Martin’s family. Martin will be missed.
Below is some of my personal favorite work from Their time spent with us at Doable Guys. I would encourage everyone to go to Martin’s instagram page to enjoy not only ALL of their work, but also a taste of the big personality behind the artwork. @punkboymarti
