We are kicking off the 2021 featuring some of the most brilliant artists working with the male form, and who better to kick things off than Ohio-based artist, Kendric Tonn. His rich, detailed oil paintings highlight the beauty of his subjects. In Kendric’s own words:

“In my oil paintings, which are painted from live models, I attempt to convey the individuality, and internal life of the sitters.  The sitters are generally drawn from the LGBTQ community, and my paintings seek to express their dignity and joy, while also queering traditional depictions of the nude.

My work seeks to form a three-way connection, between artist, model, and viewer, and to subvert the normal expectations of the passive nude subject to the heterosexual male gaze.

I have shown extensively, including at the Toledo Museum of Art, New Britain Museum of Art, and Masur Museum of Art, and my work has been featured in publications such as Prizm Magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur, and the Florence Academy of Art’s 25th Anniversary publication”
